74A 03’46” Vol 10 of Lamrim Commentary P43 L4 Master Jih-Chang’s Discourse

The Compendium of Knowledge:
What is intention? It is mental karma that involves the mind; it acts to engage the mind in virtuous, non virtuous, and ethically neutral activities.

It is this. "Intention"- intention is one of the mental processes that we would speak of in general. It is a state of mind. This state of mind will cause our mind to engage in activities. It is just like that. When we think in our minds, "Eh! I see something, I like it." At this time, our minds will like it. We will then think of ways to obtain what we like. If you  dislike it, you will then reject that which you dislike. Hence, our various actions come from this kind of state of mind.
